Reasons Why Not Everyone Needs to Master Business Japanese

While I’ve discussed the importance of mastering business Japanese for foreign entrepreneurs expanding their businesses in Japan, it’s important to note that not everyone needs to acquire this skill. The necessity of Japanese language proficiency varies depending on the nature of the job or role. For example, engineers and freelancers who primarily receive projects from overseas clients rarely have opportunities to use Japanese. In such cases, mastering business Japanese isn’t necessary, and instead, specialized skills relevant to their work take precedence. Additionally, in routine work or jobs that require using only specific Japanese phrases, such as in service or hospitality industries, there’s no need to master complex business Japanese. As long as one can learn commonly used phrases, they can manage most of their duties effectively. In these fields, basic communication skills are more important than advanced language proficiency. Furthermore, when running English language classes for children, there’s little need to use business Japanese. What’s more essential is the ability to explain things in simple Japanese that children can understand while teaching them English. Here, too, advanced business Japanese isn’t a requirement. However, if you plan to lead a team and expand your business by engaging with a wide range of clients, it’s advisable to learn business Japanese to build strong relationships with partners. Especially in B2B scenarios, being able to negotiate and conduct meetings smoothly in Japanese is key to establishing trust. In conclusion, the necessity of business Japanese depends largely on the industry and role. It’s important to tailor your language skills to the specific needs of your business.
