Even foreign nationals can own land in Japan

To own any land in Japan, one must have ownership or similar rights in that country to substantially occupy and use the place.

Many countries without Japan, allow ownership of only up to half of the land interest. In Japan, there are no restrictions based on nationality, race, or gender, as long as you have the right to borrow from a financial institution or settle in Japan. However, in Japan, where the right to settle is difficult to obtain, few people choose to acquire real estate. It is not easy to meet the requirements of being married to a Japanese national or having certain professional skills, such as being an engineer recognized by the government, even in a situation where employment is ongoing. The number of uninhabited houses in Japan is increasing. There is also the problem of the increasing proportion of elderly people in village farming areas. Real estate in such areas is in short supply, and in some areas, there have been cases of land being handed over at zero value. This is a very good option for people who want to lead a quiet life after retirement, as long as they are able to respect the local rules and regulations.
